1. Drugs X and Z bind to the same type of receptors. These two drugs were
studied using organ bath experiments, and their graded dose-response curves were plotted as shown in Figure 1

(a) From Table 1, identify ONE drug that could be Drug X, and another ONE drug that could be Drug Z. Justify your answers based on your observation from Figure 1. (8 marks)

(b) With reference to the Drug Z that you have chosen from Table 1, state ONE
therapeutic effect and ONE side effect of Drug Z. Explain the mechanism of how Drug Z causes the therapeutic effect and side effect. (4 marks)

(c) Drug X binds to Receptors A and B. State the name of the graph in Figure 2,
and explain which Receptors (A or B) does Drug X likely have stronger
intermolecular interactions with. (3 marks)

2. Figure 3 shows the plasma drug concentration versus time curves of 250 mg Drug M administered via intravenous and oral route to a healthy adult volunteer.
a) Interpret pharmacokinetics characteristics of Drug M with reference to Figure

3. Your answer should include but not limited to the following: (7 marks)
i. the area under the curve (AUC),
ii. elimination kinetics order.
Explain your answers.

b) Figure 4 shows an excerpt of pharmacokinetics information about Drug M. Based on Figure 4, explain what the doctor should consider when prescribing Drug M to a patient who is only on entecavir and has no other medical conditions. (2 marks)
