The global COVID-19 pandemic has brought a significant threat to the safety, health, and well-being of societies and communities around the world. Meanwhile, terrorist groups have attempted to exploit the new “normal” created by the global pandemic in several alarming ways. Similar to the effects suffered from infection to COVID-19, the impact of terrorism is not restricted to the individual but rather extends to entire communities.

As such, governments all over the world have continued to enhance their counter-terrorism capabilities in response to the myriad of novel and problematic security issues that have come into being as a result of the pandemic. Using relevant examples, assess how terrorists have taken advantage of security issues that arose from the global COVID-19 pandemic, in an attempt to strengthen their capabilities and fulfill their objectives.
