Delicious Foods Limited is an established food business that has been operating for approximately 20 years. The company manufactures and distributes meat products to over 52 customers each week across the UK.

The company employs 23 full-time staff and calls on local recruitment agency staff, as and when required. Mr. Jones, the owner of Delicious Foods Limited possesses food-related qualifications, however, by his own admission relies on Miss Jane Jenkins the HR/Health and Safety Manager to sort out the health and safety side of things. The attitude of the company is a very relaxed one with respect to health and safety with Mr. Jones being quoted as saying
‘Food safety is the most important aspect of our business – health, and safety can look after itself’

Assignment 1: Workplace Health and Safety Review

In her private life, Miss Jenkins is a high school governor. At a recent school governors’ meeting Miss Jenkins was asked if she would consider taking on two school-aged children for a workplace-based placement. Without hesitation, Miss Jenkins agreed to this but then started to have second thoughts remembering Mr. Jones’ thoughts on health and safety.

Finally, as is often the case, the local business community share information about possible visits from enforcement officers. Mr. Jones has heard whispers that Delicious Foods Limited may be due a visit from the Health and Safety Executive. To ensure that Delicious Foods are compliant.

Assignment Brief:
Mr. Jones has requested that you, as a health and safety practitioner, carry out an audit of:
• Overall conditions associated with Delicious Foods Limited production premises (PowerPoint presentation)
• Health and safety documentation/information including:
➢ Workplace risk assessment
➢ CoSHH information which the company currently holds on file.
➢ Information that Miss Jenkins has recently received relating to occupational health.
➢ Accident data which Miss Jenkins has been collating for review.
➢ The possibility of school aged children spending time on placement at Delicious Foods considering the evidence presented above.

Your findings of the review should be collated as a report.
