Scalars and Vectors

• Quantities such as time, temperature, and speed, which have magnitude
  only, are called scalars.
• Quantities such as force, velocity, and acceleration, which have both
  magnitude and direction, are called vectors.
• Vectors are represented geometrically by directed line segments
  (arrows).
• The direction of the arrow (the angle that it makes with some fixed
  directed line of the plane) is the direction of the vector, and
  the length of the arrow represents the magnitude of the vector.
