Background

ABC Pte Ltd is in the business of blending chemicals

One of its activities is the manual dispensing of toluene from metal drums into a plastic pail before adding it into a mixing tank for blending with other chemicals The management of the company is concerned with the safety and health of the dispensing operation of toluene. The dispensing area and the setup are as shown in slide 5.

You have been engaged as a safety consultant to advise the company on the measures they should take to improve the safety and health of the toluene dispensing operation

Your Assignment

In this assignment, you are to :

(a) Conduct a risk assessment for the dispensing of toluene from drum using the Risk Assessment template. A 5 x 5 risk matrix should be used in the risk assessment.

(b) Put up a short report on the key hazards identified, recommended improvements to the set up and the control measures to enhance the safety and health of the dispensing operation. Use sketches, pictures or photographs to illustrate your recommended improvements to the set up of the toluene dispensing operation.
