BAR300: Advanced Research in the Arts Research Paper, MU, Singapore Increasing amount of youth in Singapore nowadays suffering from obesity and Singapore has the second-highest overweight prevalence
There is an increasing amount of youth in Singapore nowadays suffering from obesity. Singapore has the second-highest overweight prevalence in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations World Health Organization. Since primary school days from 1992- to 2007, Singapore schools were pushing students to lead a healthy lifestyle, measuring BMI results, and allocating children who are overweight to join the TAF club which is a weight loss program.
Thus, the mindset of only being accepted due to how slim someone is is ingrained in the minds of Singaporeans from a young. This stigmatization brings more harm than good which can lead to driving weight gain and poor health. Thus, introducing newer health programs catering to the youth in schools would not only embraces the total well-being of students, bringing about inclusion but also ‐ develop their intrinsic motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle.
