Question 1

In the article, it is stated that there has been a ‘troubling rise’ in online harms. Parts B and C of the Smart Nation Report 2.0 highlight the need to fight against harmful online activities and create trusted digital spaces.

a) Choose ONE (1) form of online harm mentioned either in the article or Sections B and C of the Smart Nation 2.0 report.

Describe the following with reference to your chosen form of online harm:

i. Definition of the online harm, its different forms, the various online spaces it can take place and profile(s) of users likely to fall victims to such harms and possible implications at the societal level

ii. Trends and statistics that illustrate the growing problem of the chosen online harm

iii. How current digital technologies add to the severity of the problem

iv. Description of a specific incident (occurring within the last 3 years), the possible detriments that could have been suffered by the victims and consequences, if any, for the perpetrator(s) for the harm inflicted

v. Brief overview of existing efforts undertaken in terms of laws, awareness campaigns and efforts by various entities to address this form of online harm

b) Identify and explain ONE (1) gap or challenge that existing efforts may not be sufficiently addressing. Then, assess how the various entities (e.g., parents, communities, companies, government and non-government organisations) can share responsibility in addressing this gap or challenge.

Question 2

In the article, it was stated: the authorities have a “longstanding commitment” to support seniors and low-income families in their digitalisation journey.

a) The Digital Readiness Blueprint was introduced in 2018. With reference to the aims of this Blueprint as discussed in Study Unit 1, analyse THREE (3) initiatives on digital inclusion for seniors and/or low-income families, showing how they help fulfil some of the aims of the Blueprint for these vulnerable groups in Singapore. You may explore further the initiatives highlighted in the article or do your own research on other initiatives.

b) Using your own research, identify TWO (2) initiatives that enhance digital inclusivity for persons with disabilities or special needs, with one initiative implemented by the government and one implemented at an organisational level.
