Question 1
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly influencing how facilities are planned, operated, and maintained. Despite its potential to enhance operational efficiency, decision-making, and service delivery, the adoption of AI within the Facility Management (FM) sector remains uneven and faces significant challenges.
(a) Analyse THREE (3) major barriers that hinder the adoption of AI in the Facility Management (FM) sector. Your analysis should clearly explain why each barrier exists and how it affects FM organisations.

(b) Assuming the role of a Facility Manager, justify the adoption of AI to senior management by proposing appropriate strategies to address each of the barriers identified in part (a). Your justification should demonstrate how these strategies mitigate the barriers and support organisational objectives.

Pest management practices have progressively shifted from a reliance on reactive chemical treatments towards more proactive, technology-enabled, and sustainable approaches that focus on early detection, continuous monitoring, and prevention. Scenario: You are the Facility Manager for McDonald’s at Ridout Tea Garden. You are tasked with developing a pest management proposal that leverages appropriate smart technologies, taking into account the following considerations:
- Site environment
- Food and beverage operations
- High customer throughput
- Food safety and hygiene requirements
(a) Propose TWO (2) modern pest management systems that are currently used or emerging in industry and suitable for implementation at McDonald’s at Ridout Tea Garden. You are encouraged to conduct research on systems not covered in the study guide.

(b) For each proposed system, discuss the smart technologies involved and their key features, explaining how they function within a pest management context.

(c) Demonstrate how each system would be practically implemented within the daily operations of the McDonald outlet. Your answer should clearly explain how the system’s smart capabilities support proactive pest detection and/or prevention.

(d) Evaluate the two proposed pest management systems by discussing their advantages and disadvantages, specifically in relation to cost, effectiveness, operational impact, and suitability for a food-and-beverage environment.
