FMT101: Building Services Assignment, SUSS, Singapore This assignment requires a detailed study of the primary electrical power distribution system and its standby power
Question 1
This assignment requires a detailed study of the primary electrical power distribution system and its standby power option provided in a medium-rise building. You will also examine the vertical transportation system used in the building. The choice of the building could be a commercial, school, service apartment, retail, office building, or any other type of building with at least 24 m in height.
Your report should include but not be restricted to the following:
- Full address, general description of the building, the number of stories, the height of the building must be clearly described and supported with photographic evidence.
- Assess the type of electrical power distribution network (i.e. HT or LT) used in the building. Provide a layout plan, diagram/sketch to indicate the location of the substation/plant room in the building. Describe the overall building’s electrical power distribution. For better presentation or clarity in your description of the overall building’s electrical power distribution, you should include layout plan/sketches and/or Single Line
- The building should not depend upon one critical path for AC power supply. To maintain continuity of essential loads operation in the building, the secondary power supply needs to be provided. In your report, determine how the emergency power system is used to support the essential loads during an outage to the primary source of power supply. You should include layout plan/sketches and/or Single Line Diagrams (SLD)/schematics in your illustrations.
- Two basic types of lift systems could be used in a building, i.e. the conventional lift system and the Machine-room-less lift system. Discuss these two types of lift systems in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. Identify the type of the lift system used in the building and explain the reasons why the type of lift system is used in the building
- Take a photograph of the displayed “Permit to Operate” document from any lift used in the chosen building and include it in your report. Review the maintenance requirements of this lift with reference to the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act regulations, Part 3. For each maintenance outcome, you should attempt to explain the purpose and the requirement to meet it. Support your findings with properly labeled photographs, sketches, layout plans, etc.
