The paper takes on a coping perspective on how targets of prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination tackle stigmatization as active agents. Answer the following sub- questions based on your understanding of this article and course concepts.

Taking reference from Allport’s extropunitive and intropunitive ego defenses mentioned in the paper, relate one real-life example (local or international) where stigmatised groups have engaged in these coping responses.

Question 1b

The paper states that there are individual differences in people’s coping response to stigmatization that can be attributed to various moderators. Select any two of the moderators mentioned in the paper and explain with a help of an example how each one might influence differences in coping behaviours.

Discuss the psychological mechanisms behind problem and emotion focused coping strategies employed by targets of prejudice.
