Question 1 (100 marks)
Answer ALL parts of the question. Word limit: 2,800 words, excluding references and appendix.
In recent years, employee wellbeing has become an increasingly important focus for organisations. It is no longer viewed as an optional benefit, but rather as a critical factor contributing to organisational success. Research in organisational psychology suggests that employees who experience positive wellbeing are more engaged, productive and committed to their work. As a result, organisations may benefit from improved performance, stronger employer reputation and higher levels of employee retention.
Conversely, organisations that fail to prioritise employee wellbeing may face a range of challenges, including increased absenteeism, workplace stress, burnout, low morale and higher employee turnover. In today’s competitive labour market, organisations that do not support employee wellbeing may struggle to attract and retain talented individuals.
Question 1a (35 marks)
Critically examine the relationship between employee wellbeing and organisational outcomes.
- Discuss at least one relevant theory from organisational psychology to explain why employee wellbeing is important.
- Explain how wellbeing influences key organisational outcomes such as performance, motivation and retention.
- Use relevant examples to support the discussion.
Question 1b (30 marks)
Analyse how organisations can actively support and improve employee wellbeing in practice.
- Propose at least two practical strategies or initiatives that organisations can implement.
- Explain how these approaches contribute to improved employee performance, motivation and retention.
- Consider potential challenges organisations may face when implementing these strategies.
Question 1c (30 marks)
The rise of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how organisations manage employee wellbeing, creating both opportunities and ethical challenges. Critically discuss the use of AI in managing employee wellbeing within organisations.
- Explain how AI can enhance employee wellbeing and contribute to organisational outcomes.
- Evaluate at least one key ethical concern or risk of using AI.
- Explain how organisations can address these issues effectively.
