Group Case study Assignment (20%)

In the first session, your class teacher will assist you in forming a group (minimum 3, maximum 4) and allocate a case from the following list.

3. Case study 4.3- Supply chain – using child labour or paying unfair rates can destroy a brand [Chapter 4, page 113, Rankin 3rd edition]
4. Case study 5.1 -Code of ethics- IFAC issues revised code for professional accountants [Chapter 5, page 149, Ranking 3rd edition]
5. Case study 6.1 – Reining in executive pay [Chapter 6, page 186-187, Rankin 3rd edition]
6. Case study 9.1- The ethics of earnings management [Chapter 9, page 264, Rankin 3rd edition]
7. Case study 9.2- Mastering corporate governance: when earnings management becomes cooking the books [Chapter 9, page 265, Rankin 3rd edition]
8. Case study 10.1 -Turning the heat on [Chapter 10, page 290-291, Rankin 3rd edition]
9. Case study 10.2- Preventing a carbon bubble crash [Chapter 10, page 292-293, Rankin 3rd edition]

Structure of the Assignment:

1. Introduction

Word limit- maximum 2500 words (plus-minus 10%)

The analysis must be supported by contemporary academic literature, and proper referencing (Harvard referencing style) must be used.

The assignment must be submitted through the urkund link posted on LMS.

Late submission will not be accepted without prior permission from the lecturer, and 10% marks will be deducted for each day’s late submission.

Please check the assignment marking rubric so that you can plan ahead of time securing good marks.

Steps can be followed to prepare the assignment:

1. Understand the assignment requirements: It’s important to carefully read and understand the requirements of the assignment. Make sure you know what is expected of you, including the scope of the assignment, the type of assignment, the format, and the submission requirements. As the assignment has very specific questions, relying on the AI such as Chat GPT will not guarantee your pass marks.
2. Research: Once you understand the requirements, it’s time to start researching the topic. Use reputable sources such as academic journals, books, and articles to gather information. Make sure to take detailed notes as you go along.
3. Plan and organize: Before you start writing, create an outline or a plan of how you will structure your assignment. This will help you organize your thoughts and ensure that your assignment flows logically.
4. Write the first draft: With your plan in place, start writing the first draft. Don’t worry too much about getting everything perfect at this stage. Just focus on getting your ideas down on paper.
5. Edit and revise: Once you’ve completed the first draft, take a break and then come back to it later with fresh eyes. Review your work for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Check to see that your writing is clear and concise, and that you have supported your arguments with evidence.
6. Format and submit: Make sure that your assignment is formatted according to the requirements and that you have followed any submission instructions. Proofread one final time before submitting.
7. Any conflict between group members must be resolved through proper communication; if the situation worsens, you may seek assistance from a Kaplan lecturer. If you are unable to resolve internal conflicts among group members, all members will be held accountable, and marks will be deducted proportionately from all of your portions.
