Module summary
This module allows you to build upon your knowledge of human resource management (HRM) and human resource development (HRD) and apply it within a strategic context. You will be able to critically evaluate the role of HR Business Partners and be able to articulate the extent to which they add value to organisations.
You will develop the higher order skills that HR Business Partners need to influence key decisions within organisations. The module will support you to
develop your critical knowledge and skills in order to be ready to work within an HR role in the UK or globally.
Learning objectives
- Knowledge outcome – You will have developed a critical awareness of the strategic role that HR plays in global organisations and be able to evaluate
how HR Business Partners need to work with key stakeholders to design appropriate solutions. - Intellectual/transferable skills outcome – You will be able to apply a range of theories around Strategic HRM, HR Development and HR Business
Partner models, in order to inform complex organizational scenarios.

Outline of contents
This module will be assessed through an individual report on a case study which you will be provided with in week one. Therefore, please make
sure you attend week 1. If you are joining us with late enrolment, please approach the module convener immediately for the case study
allocation.
The report will require you to investigate a specified HR challange, using academic and professional literature to support your arguments. Your report will include a plan for operationalizing your recommendations. Your work will be assessed by a subject expert who will use either the marking criteria provided in the section “Instructions for assessment” or the Marking rubric enclosed in the Appendix, as appropriate for this module.
The lectures will be delivered using pre-recorded PowerPoint voiceovers and there will be mandatory pre-reading before each lecture.
Seminars will be conducted using Zoom.
